CoolMitt® Palmar Cooling Study. Sprint performance under load.

A randomized, placebo-controlled study examined palmar cooling during repeated sprints. The results show: the cooling group maintained sprint performance more steadily, showed a lower heart rate after exertion and reported less muscle soreness 48 hours later.

Study design

RCT with sprint protocol

1 15 healthy graduate students
2 10 × 60 m sprints with changes of direction
3 3 × 2 minutes palmar cooling or placebo
4 Measurement of sprint time, heart rate, exertion and muscle soreness
What does RCT mean? RCT stands for “randomized controlled trial.” This means participants are randomly assigned to groups so the effect of an intervention can be compared as fairly as possible with a control or placebo group.
Performance Effect

Performance stayed more stable

Between sprint 1 and sprint 10, the cooling group slowed down less on average than the placebo group.
